HEARD: A Ten Min Play

OBIT - 90 min play in development

Obit follows the relationship between Issy, a retired astrophysics researcher, and Maya, his 19-year-old niece who's an art major. After Issy decides not to seek treatment for his recent cancer diagnosis, Maya starts to visit every weekend from college. As they get to know new parts of each other, they decide to write his obituary together. Issy's hospice nurse Sky comes in halfway through the play and the three discuss some of the most common and most mysterious questions: what happens after we die? And should we even spend time asking it? Maybe it's best to know each other fully in the moments we have.

Obit has been read/developed at Naked Angels NYC, FAB at The Barrow Group, and New Ambassadors Theater Play Lab.

SYNOPSIS: While at her local bar in the Midwest, Joan waits for a friend while fighting off conversational advances from Faith, a nosey young bartender putting herself through nursing school. Now in her 80s, Joan has asked her friend to join her on one last trip to LA where they met in college. It's revealed that Joan has a terminal illness and intends on making this trip with her friend a true last hurrah. Faith and Joan discuss life, death, and controlling your destiny. Faith is faced with a moral dilemma when asked if she can help Joan “die with dignity”.

On the day of her wedding, Kayla visits her closeted, 10-year-old self to share the news.
